CCR Blog
How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?
Taking a look back to my research blog, it represented a lot of important info. In the genre for the Music Video that was chosen it was shown that each Music Video had their own type of spin on things. For this Music Video you could see a bit of something from each Music Video that was seen for research. The reason for a bit of something being used for this Music Video, It showcased the storyline for the Music Video really well. One of the things that was used from the “Sweater Weather” video was the black and white filter. This became very helpful as it gave the flashback scene the effect of something happening past tense. It brought the scenes together and told the story how it was supposed to be told. Another thing that was inspired for the production of the music video was the scenery scene of the beach. This scene was scene in the music video for “Sweater Weather”. Not only was the setting from that music video but the “Tongue Tied”. The music videos were both filmed at someone’s house which was very convenient for the filming. Looking at these music videos helped us come with the conclusion of the storyline. Of course we needed actresses to get the storyline across. This music video is for those who have went through things with their relations that have left them feeling alone. They may be going through their downs with maybe a partner, someone close to them or a family member, or any one else that play an important part in their lives. The message that we tried addressing was more fitting to the song of choice than it being a happy, cheerful music video. We thought it would be a good idea to address individuals who are feeling alone and feel like they have nothing and let them know that they are not the only ones who are dealing with such. The music video may bring them comfort to get through their hardships.
How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?
What makes my video special is that some when creating a music video they may think to do fun stuff instead of addressing and connecting to problems that the public audience may be facing. They may head into the direction of having an upbeat and exciting music video. It may be enjoyable to the viewers which is good, but at the same time some may not want to go for those types of music videos. What made the music video fun was producing how we wanted each scene or clip to be delivered, for example the acting. Some viewers may find the acting entertaining, although the storyline is a bit touchy to real world problems they can find some type of enjoyment by how we told the story. Relatively speaking, if this video was made professionally I would have liked for this video to be published on TikTok. The reason for this is because if it were to be published on TikTok it would be seen more and get more recognition. The TikTok audience would be of more people who could understand the awareness we are trying to bring. Not only that but they’d seem to enjoy it or find some entertainment from the production.
How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
Doing the whole production process for this project for the first time ever a lot has been improved or been discovered. Starting out the process I came to the knowledge of how things in the music or film industry are done. I had no idea that there had to be a storyboard involved to bring the production to life. I never really thought much of how things are produced or created. Now going through the whole process for Music Videos I recognize how much work is put into them. I see now how the effort and detail is put into the storyboards. So that those filming and recording each scene have an idea of how they want each scene to be filmed in a certain way. Another thing is with the editing I had some knowledge and I was a bit familiar since I usually help my sister with promoting her business through TikTok. I learned more of how to edit differently than how I would normally edit her videos. I was able to learn how to add more things in like effects or filters. With editing the clips and putting them together for the Music Video i was able to enhance my knowledge and figuring out a bit more how the app CapCut works.
How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this project?
For the whole production of this project three phones were being used. Two of those phones were used to film the scenes. One of those two phones was used for both filming and editing. The third phone was used in the scenes where the main lead was checking her messages for the storyline. During the filming of the scenes we transferred to a different phone because we had a bit of trouble with connecting a pair of Airpods to the phone that was supposed to be a prop. To have the filming move a bit more smoothly we had to come up with a solution which was use the phone that was being used to film everything to be a prop for the scene of the song playing while the main lead walked down the street. We decided on using phones instead of a physical camera because it was easier to control and was more convenient for this project. Since we didn’t have a physical camera it was much better for us to use phones, the quality was much better on the phones than a camera. To edit this music video we chose CapCut because it was free and I was already somewhat familiar with how the app works and the settings. Using CapCut for the editing was honestly not that difficult. During this whole project I used blogger to help me keep up with what has been done or what needs to be done for the music video to come together. It came in handy when I needed to revise what had been done.
